This place had a great ambiance, just your neighborhood bar. But, everybody was having fun and very friendly, even at 4pm on Thursday. It was cool that there were families there. Mostly regulars. My only comment: $34 for four beers in Thursday afternoon may be the most expensive beers I have had in a long time. Yes, the prices are clearly marked; I should have paid more attention. Yes, the bartender was super helpful in letting us try any tap, and even mixed the ciders for us. Still, $8/$9 for a beer 9 cider: ouch, and thus only 4*.

Bottle Bay Brewing Co was a brewery I kind of had to process over time before I gave it this five star score. After having two different beers from here I learned to appreciate their recipes and actually in the end really enjoyed my experience here. I had two beers from their Day Drinker series. The first beer I had was their London Day Drinker. This was an English Mild style beer with American Hops. Features with this was a yeasty, malty, breadiness and a deliberate mustiness to it that I enjoyed at the time but realized how unique it was later. Same gives with the Woodsman Day Drinker which was a light lager living up to it's name nicely with pine and woody flavors that truly makes one think they are journeying through a deep forest. Highly unique beer! I would love to try more beers from this series as the two I had before really brought something different to the table.

Spokane has a surprising number of breweries but most of them are concentrated in the downtown area. While this might be nice if someone wants to walk from brewery to brewery, downtown Spokane is not necessarily a pleasant place to walk, and I am generally only in the mood to explore one brewery before heading home. Also, given the concentration of breweries in downtown, it means that the southern side of Spokane, where a large portion of the higher income Spokanites live, is untapped. This is Bottle Bay Brewing's market. While they are a small brewery, they are located in the middle of southern Spokane, making them an easy drive from anyone South of downtown. Plus, there's plenty of parking, patio seating, and they are straddled next to a Chinese restaurant, giving everyone a great food option to go with there beer. While I didn't have any Chinese food while I was there, based on the number of people at the restaurant, I bet it is pretty good. My wife and I generally like to try the lighter beers on tap. For us, the mark of a quality brewer is one who can make a flavorful, drinkable beer, one that tastes good but doesn't knock you out, shows creativity but isn't so thick that it can be confused for a food group rather than a drink. Bottle Bay Brewing wins in this category. They seem to understand that there's a market for this type of beer drinker and created a line of beers for it. They had three low alcohol beers: the Woodsman, the Irishman, and the Englishman. We got the Woodsman and the Irishman. The Woodsman has pine, or some other tree ingredient added to the beer that gives it a unique flavor that I have never had before. It is my winner for best beer in Spokane. The Irishman is an irish stout. I can't say that it was entirely unique or original but it was well done and I would order it again.

Great flavors in their brews. IPA's we're not in name only. Flavorful and hoppy. Stout was terrific, and the Ginger Ale had a great gingery finish. First visit, but the signage indicates they have great patron-friendly events. We will be back for the beer and the fun events.

We were excited to check out the new tasting room as we had sampled their beer at one of the beer fests a year or so back. We just stopped in to sample some beer, as we didn't have much time, but we liked what we saw. Cozy tasting room with friendly service. The cabin/dive bar feel is a nice touch. We found all the beer drinkable, and we both found a couple that we really liked. If we didn't live so far out, this could easily be a place to go to regularly.
